ATIPS Researchers Continue Success at TEXPO2003-06-24

ATIPS researchers continued their success at the Canadian Microelectronics Corporation TEXPO last week, winning 2 of 3 awards for the second year in a row.

Bogdan Georgescu won the CMC CAD/Componentware Award while Mohammed Sayed and Mehboob Alam won the prestigious Strategic Microelectronics Council Industrial Collaboration Award. The awards are for winning poster displays and each carry a cash prize of $3000 to be used for conference travel.

Bogdan Georgescu's winning poster submission had an unlikely beginning. Initially not admitted into TEXPO, CMC kept him in mind and eventually made room but with one caveat - there was no space for him in the award competition.

After "Bogie" was unable to obtain a refund for his travel arrangements he decided to attend anyways and eventually prevailed upon CMC organizers to allow him to compete for an award. His troubles not yet over, Bogdan was forced to scramble when last minute changes to his poster resulted in a plotter jamming, just hours before his flight to TEXPO. The troubles were eventually resolved and Bogie did make his flight on time.

Special thanks to CMC TEXPO organizers for considering Bogdan's entry and congratulations to all the winners and attendees.
