Ph.D. Project

For my Ph.D. thesis, I designed components for an optical single sideband system. My thesis is entitled A Logarithmic Amplifier and Hilbert Transformer for Optical Single Sideband. This system is unique because it operates at baseband, similar to existing 2.5 Gb/s and 10 Gb/s systems, except it is single sideband and envelope detection may be used at the receiver. Hence, although the transmitter is different than existing systems, the receiver front end still consists of a photodiode followed by a transimpedance and post amplifier. The components that I designed are a logarithmic amplifier and a Hilbert transformer. My test work took place at TRLabs Calgary, which is a communications laboratory with which I was affiliated. I was part of the RFIC group under the supervision of Dr. Haslett. I went to Snowbush Microelectronics in February 2005.
